Tulips are one of the most well known and elegant flowers. Tulips require a full sun to light shade area and are hardy in USDA Zones 3 - 8. In mild winter areas, refrigerate tulips for 6 weeks before planting. Plant tulips 6 inches deep and 4 - 6 inches apart. Plant them in the fall. Below are some varieties of tulips available.
MidSeason Triumph Tulips - Triumph Tulips are the result of crossing between long stemmed Darwin Tulips and varieties of the short stemmed Early Tulips. When planted outdoors, their flowering time is in between these varieties blooming late April/early May. With their strong stems, large flowers, and medium heights, Triumph Tulips are excellent as pot plants for Valentines Day and Easter. Also superb in beds or borders. Size 12 cm+ in circumference. Zones 3-8.
Monet or Riviera Tulips(Specially selected Single Late Tulips) These tulips tend to grow taller, do better in warmer climates, have long lasting, large flowers and perennialize well. .
Mayflowering Tulips - These classic aristocrats of tulips are probably the most popular of all tulips. Up to 26" tall. .
Exotic Garden Tulips - These special tulips have been selected for their unique beauty and rare characteristics. They make gorgeous cut flowers.
