Dicentra - Bleeding Heart - In general, dicentras need righ,
light, moist, well drained soil. They don't like water standing around their
roots. Two of the popular varieties are Dicentra spectabilis and Dicentra
formosa. Dicentra spectabilis (Pink Bleeding Heart)
- Native to Japan. Old garden favorite and showiest of the bleeding
hearts. Plants grow 2 - 3 feet tall and have graceful pink heart shaped
flowers, lacy foliage. Blooms in mid-spring to early summer. Zones 2-11.

Dicentra formosa (Dwarf
western bleeding heart) - Mative to moist woods along the Pacific
Coast. Produces leafless flower stalk 8-18" tall, with clusters of pendulous
pale to deep rose flowers. They bloom between April and June. Hardy in Zones 2
- 11.
