Camellia hybrid and Camellia japonica
These camellias are a spectacular group of plants favored for their bloom display in fall and winter. Useful in milder areas of the U.S. Shelter from strong sun and drying winds is preferred for best performance. These varieties are hardy to 10 - 20 degrees F. The blooming periods give a range of when the flowers bloom. The actual month when the camellias will bloom depend on the weather to a degree.
Coral Delight Camellia hybrid 'Coral Delight' - Handsome shrub with leathery dark green foliage that backs a profusion of exquisite rich coral-pink, semi-double blossoms. Blooming period: Dec. - Feb.
Taylor's Perfection Camellia hybrid 'Taylor's Perfection' - Evergreen shrub with leathery dark green foliage that backs a profusion of exquisite light pink, semi-double blossoms. Blooming period: Dec. - Feb.
Chandleri Elegans Camellia Camellia japonica 'Chandleri Elegans Variegated' - Spectacular, anemone form blooms, rose pink mottled with white. Blooming period: Dec. - Feb.
Colonel Fiery Camellia Camellia japonica 'Colonel Fiery' - Spectacular, formal dark red blooms, very large in size. Blooming period: Feb. - April
Debutante Camellia Camellia japonica 'Debutante' - Abundant large peony-like blooms, light pink in color. Blooming period: December - February.
Elegans Splendor Camellia japonica 'Elegans Splendor' - Spectacular, anemone form blooms, light pink edged in white. Blooming period: December - February.
Mathotiana Supreme Camellia Camellia japonica 'Mathotiana Supreme' - Extremely large, double blooms with loose, irregular, flaming crimson petals. Blooming period: December - February.
Nuccio's Gem Camellia Camellia japonica 'Nuccio's Gem' - Quite handsome, sparkling white blooms, formal to double in form. Blooming period: December - February.
Tom Knudsen Camellia Camellia japonica 'Tom Knudson' - Spectacular, dark red blooms, accented by deep red veining, are formal to rose form. Blooming period: December - February. Click here to see another picture of the flower from the same plant as the picture to the left.
Debbie Camellia Camellia x 'Debbie' - Startling variation in flower size and form make this a unique Camellia. Rich deep rose-pink flowers in both peony and anemone form on the same plant in late winter or spring. Slow growing to 6 - 8 feet high and as wide, but at maturity can reach 20 feet unless shaped when young. See peony form here.
Camellia Ice Angels™ Series - These new introductions are among the most hardy camellias around. They flower over an extended period in late winter or spring. The evergreen shrubs thrive in partial or filtered shade. Hardy to 0 degrees F. or less.
Winter's Fire Camellia Camellia x 'Winter's Fire' - Produces extraordinary numbers of vivid red-pink 4 1/2 inch blossoms as early as November, lasting through February. An upright grower that is an excellent dense background, foundation plant or hedge. Evergreen. Part or filtered shade.
