Ixia also known as Corn lily lends color
and grassy texture to borders, perennial gardens, or containers. Dense flower
clusters are borne on wiry stems 10 - 18 inches tall, above narrow-bladed
leaves. As container plants, they provide excellent color and will flower for
at least a month. Excellent cut flowers. Planted outdoors, they need a sunny,
very protected location with a heavy winter mulch. Flowers outdoors May - June.
In mild climates ixias may be left in the ground permanently. In cold climates
allow the foliage to wither naturally and dig the bulbs before the first frost.
Store in a cool dry place that will not freeze. Plant the bulbs approximately 3
inches deep and about 4 inches apart with the pointed end up. Hardy in USDA
Zones 7 - 10. |
