There are several types of crocus available today. There are early spring blooming varieties and fall blooming varieties. Spring blooming crocus should be planted in the fall and the fall blooming crocus are planted in early fall(September). Crocus can be used as borders, in rock gardens, woodlands, or containers. They prefer full sun to light shade and well drained soil. Plant the bulbs with pointed side up.
'Giant Crocus - These colorful crocus grow about 6 inches high with 2 to 4 inch tall flowers. They bloom in early spring. Plant them 2 - 3 inches deep and about 3 inches apart. They look best when grouped together in clusters of 10 - 20 bulbs. Hardy in USDA Zones 3 - 8.
Specie Crocus - These are a welcome addition to the giant Crocus. The color combination, hardiness, and early flowering make them a must in the garden. You will enjoy their bright colors and bunch-flowering habit. They bloom very early to extend the crocus blooming season. Hardy in USDA Zones 3 - 9. Best when planting in groupings. Plant 2 - 3 inched deep and 3 inches apart.
