There are several types of crocus
available today. There are early spring blooming varieties and fall blooming
varieties. Spring blooming crocus should be planted in the fall and the fall
blooming crocus are planted in early fall(September). Crocus can be used as
borders, in rock gardens, woodlands, or containers. They prefer full sun to
light shade and well drained soil. Plant the bulbs with pointed side
up. 'Giant Crocus - These colorful crocus grow about 6 inches high with 2 to
4 inch tall flowers. They bloom in early spring. Plant them 2 - 3 inches deep
and about 3 inches apart. They look best when grouped together in clusters of
10 - 20 bulbs. Hardy in USDA Zones 3 - 8. Specie Crocus - These are a
welcome addition to the giant Crocus. The color combination, hardiness, and
early flowering make them a must in the garden. You will enjoy their bright
colors and bunch-flowering habit. They bloom very early to extend the crocus
blooming season. Hardy in USDA Zones 3 - 9. Best when planting in groupings.
Plant 2 - 3 inched deep and 3 inches apart.
